Gateway U15s Shine Despite Narrow Defeat
The Gateway School U15 cricket team delivered a spirited performance against Goldridge, falling short by just 20 runs but leaving the field with plenty of positives to celebrate.
The highlight of the match was the opening partnership between Lukelo Karonga and Tavonga Matsika, a duo that continues to provide the team with a strong foundation at the top of the order. Their growing chemistry at the crease is setting the stage for what could be a seamless transition into first-team cricket in the years ahead.
Lukelo proved his all-round value, not only with the bat but also with the ball and in the field. His remarkable figures of five wickets and two catches showcased his versatility and match-winning potential. Tavonga, meanwhile, demonstrated the qualities of a top-order batsman who contributes beyond runs. His sharp fielding produced two outstanding catches, and he chipped in with two wickets, underlining his importance to the side.
Coach Siguake praised the team’s resilience and growth, noting that these performances are laying the groundwork for future success. “This group is building the right habits and learning to compete at a high level. The foundation they are setting now will serve them well as they prepare for senior cricket and beyond,” he said.
Though the scoreboard favored Goldridge, Gateway’s U15s showed that they are a team on the rise. With Lukelo and Tavonga leading the charge, the future of Gateway cricket looks bright and full of promise.
